Please RT: #funkclub #summertweetup #12thJuly – What Tracks Do U Want? @souljazzfunk @SquareBiz_T @hushy1 @Assistant007 @michaelvitti

Mon fisce'

The Twitter phenomenon that is #funkclub rolls into London Town #LightoftheWorld @TheFunkyNation hosted by #RonnieScotts @officialronnies for its #summertweetup on #12thJuly.

We all love our music and know what we like, but are still so often blown away by some of the great tracks that other members know and willingly share.
Let’s clarify the deal here though – Anyone who’s sensibilities run to #funky #soulful &/or a bit of both should drop everything else and join now. We’re wholly inclusive, not exclusive – Step on up & Come on in – you’re most welcome.
You don’t need to be a train spotter or an anorak – Just have the Passion and know that life can be better with great music shared, experienced and loved with great people.
So, what tracks might we like to hear on the #12thJuly? Well this is just to get the ball rolling and remember, it’s only a bit of fun – the great team @TheFunkyNation @michaelvitti are in charge and can play whatever they can play on #12thJuly – & whatever that is, we’ll all be just mad 4 it, won’t we! Oh Yeah!!
Anyway, here’s my 9 (in no particular order). I tried to limit it to 5 , but it was driving me crackers, &, 10 just seems greedy – it’s been hard to narrow down, but you try too and share/tweet your 9 for #funkclub – & let’s be as Awesome as I know You all are:
“Groovy People” Lou Rawls
“Native New Yorker” Oydessy
“Saturday Night Sunday Morning” Thelma Houston
“Praying” Harold Melvin
“Getaway” EW&F
“Can’t Keep My Hands To Myself” TS Monk
“Back In Love Again” LTD
“Come Go With Me” Pockets
“Galaxy” War

As The Monkey & I had a Birthday whilst we were in Greece we thought we’d share those Tracks that the Shuffle Meister pulled out of his shuffley Hat for our Run on the 4th August – The 9th Day – & as the early Morning Mist started to rise on The ‘Prosecco Run’ as it has now become known – But, that’s a story for another day – it was Michael Jackson with His cover of the Classic, “I Wanna Be Where You Are” – now we have versions in the Mix of this Momentus track by Leon Ware – One of the Co-writers – & Thelma Huston, But the Killer version which we don’t yet have is by Jose Feliciano which comes from his Debut Album for Motown – Anyway, It will come to us soon!; & following this fantastic start on that morning is the Joyously Fecund Rolling Stones with the absolutely in your Face, “Tumbling Dice” – Blazing!!

Jack McDuff picked up the Pace next with a righteous slice of Jazz Funk entitled, “Ju Ju”; & Archie Bell & The Drells then followed that into Town with a Reminder to, “Don’t Let Love Get You Down” – Wise Words, but lost on the Monkey & Me, as our Heart always Leads & we never learn; Then we Got Jackie Verdell with a slice of brilliant Spiritual Soul &  a re-working of Neil Diamond’s, “I’m A Believer” – & the Big thing about this for us Here at Monkey Towers is that Idris Mohammed propels it all along with some Right On Drumming!!

The Bee Gees then gave us their own version of one of their Great Songs – the very Marvelous, “How Do You Mend A Broken Heart” – & whilst we know and love Brother Al Green’s classic cut, which Broke this Song, Well – You Know, we’re rather Fond of the Bros Gibb! And this was then followed by Jeffrey Osborne, ex of LTD singing a beautifully slowed down version of Skip Scarbrough’s, “Love Ballad” – Now this Cut plays at about half-speed compared to George Benson’s joyous lay-down from his classic Album ‘In Flight’ – But Bros Osborne really draws out the Soul of the Song and… Well, Just Go and Listen to both on You Tube, or… and you’ll see what we mean!!

And then Who Rode into Town yet again but Glen Campbell – Always Welcome – & on that day he sang for us, “By The Time I Get To Phoenix” – & Boy, we love that song and we have a few different versions including Issac Hayes 16+ minute version from ‘Hot Buttered Soul’ which is Stellar, but our Man Glen was a bloody great interpreter of Jimmy Webb songs! And than as we got to the Bridge on that Morning, when everything was possible in the best of all possible worlds – No, not Dr Pangloss – but Steely Dan sung for us, although they weren’t shy in using literary references themselves – & it’s one of our Favourites, “Brooklyn’s Made A Charmer Out Of Me” – & Here I must say a Big Shout out for Pauline – Keep The Faith, Be Awesome & Msr Le Shuffle & I will Keep It On Shuffle – For all who said they liked the Shufflettes, I’m afraid they’ve gone back on Tour so we’ll end with just a boring old picture of Grass Growing under our Feet!! 🙂
